Costume: Faerie of Poisonous Plants by TempestFae Costume: Faerie of Poisonous Plants by TempestFae
Original concept and design for Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade XIX.

Even dangerous plants can be beautiful, and all plants deserve the love and attention of the faeries, even if this might make those faeries unpopular, or even a bit scary! Inspired by the Faerie Magazine article on Alnwick Castle Garden's Poison Garden. Based on three poisonous plants, the Henbane (which will make you pass out if you sniff it!), Deadly Nightshade berries, and the infamous Poppy.

Dress: Original design and pattern, made from chenille, silk, and gauze with a hand-painted design of henbane veins. Decorated with greenery, carved bone skull beads and a high collar.

Wings: EVA foam, armature wire, latex based paint, and silk. These were specifically designed to fold down and fit in my carry on luggage, as well as swing out of the way in the event I bumped anyone in the glittering throng.

Mask: SLS Masks

Tiara, bracelets & earrings: Nightshade berry beaded motifs woven around gold painted twigs, and more bead skulls.

Ears: Ardani Costumes

Horns: Grinkin's from the Georgia Renaissance Festival

Poppy Tattoos: Sharpie, dusted with translucent powder! And a three dimensional, sparkling sticker for the center.

This is a great concept. I have always felt that not all fae are fluffy butterflies.

Thanks! I really had fun coming up with the idea and running with it. I'm sure my search history looked a bit worrisome for a while, however...
